Channel 4 undertakes to meet all administrative costs including Administrator's fee, panellists' fees, printing and advertising, postage etc. In addition Channel 4 sponsors the Channel Four Award, a bursary worth £10,000 covering one year's attachment to a selected theatre. There are no secretarial/office overheads since the Administrator undertakes all secretarial work. The bursaries, each worth £10,000, are paid to the trainees in advance quarterly sums and, by special arrangement with the Inland Revenue, these are paid tax-free.The Scheme is only viable if at least THREE bursaries can be offered. One of these, the Channel 4 Award, is guaranteed but the Administrator undertakes to find sponsors each year for two others and to link them to the appropriate theatre. In addition, sponsorship is sought each year for the trainees' end-of-term productions (see HISTORY OF THE SCHEME). Credit is given to the sponsor, and the Scheme, in the theatre's programmes and other publicity. The Scheme itself is not a registered charity but theatres in the UK are. For this reason special arrangements can be made if sponsors wish to make their donation directly to a theatre participating in the Scheme.
