During the period of attachment the Theatre will endeavour to cover the following areas of training:

INDUCTION - to meet with all heads of Department (marketing, publicity, finance, administration, production, sponsorship, front of house, artistic operations) to discuss their various functions, followed by an appropriate period of attachment to each.

ADMINISTRATION - to learn the functions of front-of-house management, liaison with the public, Box Office, organisation of ushers and delegation of duties, ensuring fire and safety regulations are applied.

ARTISTIC OPERATIONS - commissioning of scripts, reading of scripts and procedures relating to both; casting and liaison with actors and their agents, rehearsal schedules and processes, play-reading events, workshops, organising tours, backstage visits etc.

FINANCE - Analysis of production budgets, financial reporting and controls.

EDUCATION - where a Schools Programme exists the Trainee is to be involved with liaison between theatre and Schools, feedback programmes etc.

GENERAL - the Theatre will, at its own discretion, allow the Trainee Director to attend appropriate events at other theatres etc. to learn the overall responsibilities of a Director. If a transfer for any given period is proposed to further these aims the theatre will consult the Scheme's Administrator.

DIRECTING RESPONSIBILITIES - the purpose of the attachment is to prepare the Trainee for the role of Director and, subject to satisfactory progress, the Scheme requires that the Theatre extends the Trainee's attachment for a further SIX MONTHS during which time a suitable production, either main-house or studio, will be offered. Financial assistance is available from the Scheme towards the cost of this production. If, however, a production is offered within the period of the agreement the Theatre will first consult the Scheme's Administrator.
